Hey guys! I’m back again with another review, just before Christmas!
Today, I’ll be covering the DLC for Jurassic World Evolution 2: Dominion Malta Expansion pack published by Frontier. This time, I decided to do something different and just cover a DLC, so this review is shorter than the others, so let me know what you think?
Thank you so much to Nathan from Frontier the review code! And I hope you all have a lovely holiday and New Year! Also, I want to thank you all for taking the time to read my reviews! I appreciate it a lot!
One thing you gotta give Frontier is that they know how to make a brilliant DLC for their games. Practically, a year after Jurassic World Evolution 2 came out, we are blessed with another DLC: Dominion Malta Expansion pack!
Now, if you haven’t seen Jurassic World: Dominion, then this review will contain slight spoilers from the film, which I can’t really avoid given the name of the DLC haha. The DLC itself also has spoilers from the film too, so that’s a quick heads up!
Quick run through of Jurassic World Evolution 2
Since you’re reading this review, I’m assuming you’ve played the base game already: Jurassic World Evolution 2, but here’s a quick rundown.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 (JWE) is the successor to the first game by Frontier: Jurassic World Evolution. It’s a park management simulation game in which you create and have full control over your own Jurassic Park! (Mr Hammond would be proud indeed!)
It’s your goal to create a safe environment for researching dinosaurs, keeping them safe and healthy, but also under control so they aren’t a danger to others, as well as running a successful park for your visitors too.
Following the events of the Jurassic World movies, JWE 2 has both a campaign and a sandbox mode and the management mechanics are so much more in-depth than the first game, alongside having brilliant story events throughout the campaign.
You can also build your park in different countries, which is a nice touch, and with that said, let’s go to the main event! The Dominion Malta Expansion pack DLC!
Off on another adventure!
Just as the title states, players are taken to Malta with a completely new campaign, new dinosaurs and new quests. Just like with the base game, fans of the movies will definitely appreciate the Dominion lore in this DLC, as more familiar faces make a return. To me, the campaign is definitely the big highlight of it.
New dino special guests!
The Atrociraptor, Lystrosaurus, Oviraptor, and Moros Intrepidus are the new dino additions to the DLC and whilst they may be small, they are mighty indeed! And honestly, I loved that they brought more dinosaurs to expand our parks, and helped maintain the magic of the game.
And personally, the Atrociraptor kill animation is one of my FAVOURITES. I loved the Owen Grady references and the different skins are brilliant too.
Gameplay
The DLC doesn’t change much of the gameplay, but it does add a very familiar black market where there’s a Dinosaur Exchange, which echoes the movie. The more dinosaurs you have (and how you get them) also influences those around you.
More specifically, there are two groups of people of whom you decide who to trust and who to gain trust from: The Authorities and the Underground. It’s up to you to decide.
Each seller has a trust level and it’s down to you to decide whether or not they will fulfil their promise and deliver the dinosaurs or not, which makes the process of getting dinosaurs more risky. It certainly makes things so much more interesting.
Whilst it doesn’t make much difference to the narrative of the DLC, it’s still a nice addition nonetheless.
Moral dilemmas and decisions
Another thing I really liked about the DLC that made the game more realistic was the choices you have to make during the game.
For example if you have staff working on a new building and they get injured, you can choose to pay the medical bills or refuse all responsibilities, which most likely hurt your public image as a safe park.
You also decide on different quests to take, which has many useful rewards and helps you grow your park’s reputation.
Conclusion
One thing I’ve learned about Jurassic World Evolution 2 is that each DLC adds something special to the game, building it up piece by piece to become the ultimate Jurassic Park management game. The Dominion Malta Expansion pack did not disappoint and I think it’s worth both your time and money, if you truly want to have a complete experience of this game.
The only fault I could find is that I wish there was more music in the game, that would have TRULY completed it for me, but to be honest, in the grand scheme of things, I think this game is excellent and the Malta DLC is the cherry on top to an otherwise successful game.
Also, a little note. I love the building sets in the Malta DLC and it might actually beat Biosyn for me in terms of looks, but that’s just my opinion haha!
Once again, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and holiday season!
